Good Bye Hazel....

~The Thursday before Labor Day weekend, we got the phone call that are long time Family Dog "Hazel" was experiencing Kidney Failure. She was at the Animal Hospital and we were told she wouldn't make it much longer.

~I remembered... picking out Hazel as a puppy at a neighbor's house many years ago. Sara & Phylip were just little kids; making Hazel now a Grandma Dog. I've never been an animal person but nonetheless she was still a part of our lives. And she made my kids, siblings and parents happy. Hazel had lived a good, long life and now was ready to go.

~Hazel was like my kids very own pet BUT without any of the dirty work; the perfect scenario for me. So when we got the phone call, I knew I had to sit the kids down & prep them for the news.

~I said it as gently as I could. It was really hard on Kaylea -my animal lover. While her brothers left the room somewhat melancholy & sad, they still went straight off to play. Kaylea on the other hand, closed her bedroom door & sat in my lap for a long time and cried and cried. It broke my heart.

That evening I took Kaylea (& Jax) down to the Animal Hospital to say our goodbyes
Here are some of the pictures:
aw...look at those faces...

Kaylea has always tried to be a good friend to Hazel.
She said she will miss snuggling with her.

That stinks!!! My parents dog Daisy died about a month ago. We got her when I was in high school. It's so hard to explain death to kids. I think you should buy Kaylea a puppy!

So, um...this made me cry.

Especially the part about Kaylea. What a sensitive little spirit that sweet little gal has. I'm so sorry that this had to happen, but now Hazel can be your little guardian dog angel. :) I really will miss her though. I only have a few memories with her, but I loved seeing her whenever I'd come to your parents' home. Mom said grandma and granddad said it wasn't the same being over there this time, because of the lack of Hazel's presence. What an influence a little animal can make on so many people's lives!

By the way, I showed my mom the pictures from this post, then we proceeded to look at the pictures from the rest of the posts on this page. :) It's so fun seeing your family grow!

Aww. that is so sad. I hope you will get your kids a really big golden retriever and let them have a dog of their own now. I bet Kaylea would take care of it and walk it and everything! Oh wait, what was I thinking..YOUR MOM should get one!
