10 Years Ago Today...

My Heart Stretched further than I ever thought possible.

I had an idea what being a Mother would feel like but until it actually happened I couldn't believe how much I could love this little guy I had seen for just a few seconds.

Spencer came 3 weeks early and not by anyone's choice. June 8, 2000 I was told after seeing my Dr. to go straight over to the Hospital to not even go home to get my bags. I was experiencing Pre-eclampsia and had dangerous blood pressure & protein in my urine meaning my kidneys were not working. Then for a good 24 hours I was given doses of pitocin to get me in labor, as well as magnesium sulfate to keep me from seizuring that could be fatal to me and my baby. The only way to rid a body of pre eclampsia is the birth of the baby. My doc tried to let me have him naturally but after a full day of trying, my body was in great danger.

In my dazed state I don't remember much, but I know I was miserable & felt like I was on the verge of death. I remember hallucinating & telling my Mom to get the spiders off the ceiling. I remember seeing my dad & tim come into the room with tears in their eyes after talking to the doctor. Within minutes I was wheeled into the operating room, cut open & heard the best sound ever. My Spencer was born. They brought him around to me and I'll never forget what I saw: the most beautiful baby with his arms flung straight out sideways, his screaming red face. He was perfect in every way.

Spencer's birth literally saved my life that day & has changed it ever since. He is our firstborn for so many reasons & I thank him for taking on that responsibility. It's a big one-I should know.

This little (Big) Boy breaks my heart almost daily...usually in a good way. This year has been one where he has really had to get to know who he is and be proud of it. Spencer is a strong spirit and has a great mission here on the Earth...Something I've known since his birth & still today you can just feel it when you talk to him.

10. His desire to learn new things!
9. His hip hop/breakdancing moves & his beat-boxing, piano playing & speed reading abilities
8. His love of jokes & stories -telling & hearing them
7. His memory is amazing-{2 yrs ago he memorized a song naming all the U.S. Presidents}
6. He can really read people. He knows if they're being secretly deceitful, vicious & separates himself from them.
5. His unique personality. I love that you can't really pin him down saying he's "this" or "that"
4. He is a wonderful example to adults & kids alike. He tells friends openly what he believes.
3. His adventurous side. He always has had a lot of energy!
2. He is sensitive to people's feelings and things of a spiritual nature
1. His tender heart & genuine love for people

*Happy 10th Birthday Spence*

LOVE that pouting lip ... totally reminds me of Nolan. And thanks for reminding me that I should be thanking Marina for taking on the responsibility of being the oldest ... it is hard ... everyday.

Happy Birthday Spencer! You are one amazing 10 year old. I love that you are true to yourself, you know who you are! {Most adults can't even say that!}

One thing I love about you, is your name. And I LOVE the story behind it. Names are very important to me...
