F' Oscar Night

*A few weeks ago I attended a Young Women/Young Men activity that my brother Phylip, sister Sara and Mom & Dad participated in. My Mom is the current Young Women's President in their ward and they put on their own "Fake" Oscars Night. They called it the F' Oscars. The Youth LOVED it and had a lot of fun!
*The M.C's of course talked about the differences between the Oscars & the F' Oscars. Another great example that we can be in the world but not of it! These youth had made wholesome videos whereas most movies in the media are not wholesome. Also another obvious difference is real Hollywood's apparel verses these kids modest gowns, tuxes & demeanor.

*Before they began the night with the video watching, the Youth got to walk down the "Red Carpet" as their leaders and family members cheered them on. They all looked modestly beautiful & handsome! My bro Phylip ate it up & worked his dance moves for the crowd.

*So after the carpet walking they began watching the "movies" on the big screen. The kids had fun filming, starring in, putting music to & editing their movies. Each age group put together their own video based on one of the values in the Strength for Youth Pamphlet. So for instance the Laurel class did theirs on"Dating", the Teacher class did theirs on "Media/Entertainment." Other classes did their videos on Honesty, Modesty, Friends etc.

*During Intermission there was even a concession stand with popcorn, licorice & tootsie rolls that my Dad served at. Then at the end of the night the kids were awarded by class their F' Oscar Awards which were really cool looking & giant size. A good time was had by all! A great idea to any of you youth leaders out there.

(Much more enjoyable than the actual Oscars...especially this year!)

haha ya it was a fun activity! We all worked hard on our (cheesy) Movies and definately looked forward to that night. I think we're going to make it be a yearly activity... so they'll just get better next year!:) oh and thanks for letting me borrow your computer Audy!!!

What a GREAT idea!! I am glad that you went to support - I think that means a lot more to the girls to see that cool, spiritual, older siblings / girls care enough about them to actually go and spend time with them. I honestly think that those moments impact them more than we give credit for.
